Greeting in Japanese

In this lesson we are going to learn about how to greet people in Japanese as well as the way to respond it.

1. Good Morning

*おはよう/Ohayō (casual)

*おはようございます/Ohayōgozaimasu (formal)

2. Good Afternoon

こんにちは/Kon’nichiwa

It is used from mid-day to early evening (10:00 AM to 5:59 PM). It is also used as an informal greeting, means “hello”. With kanji, Konnichiwa is written as 今日は.

3. Good Evening
こんばんは/Konbanwa

4.Good Night

おやすみなさい/Oyasuminasai
